South-South cooperation between Cameroon and China- Pekin University People's Hospital

The south-south cooperation between Cameroon and China dates back from more than 40 years ago. Many Cameroonians have had the pleasure to visit the Chinese hospitals in Mbalmayo, Yaoundé and Guider, and more recently HGOPED. In the continuity of this partnership, a sharing of professional experiences between professionals from China and Cameroon occurred at the Peking University People’s Hospital, originally named Central Hospital of China located at Fuchengmen.

PUPH is the first comprehensive western medicine hospital built on funds raised solely by Chinese Government. The exchange visit was more of a display of the Chinese performance in the specific areas of maintenance of equipment, pharmacy, medical health infrastructure and health technology.

The relationship between Cameroon-China has been characterized by numerous official visits involving top government officials from both countries. These visits always led to the reinforcement of ties through the signing of cooperation agreements. More recent years have, however, witnessed an enhancement of the extent of interaction between the two countries. President Paul Biya visited China in November 2006 and President Hu Jintao visited Cameroon in January 2007. The President of the Republic of Cameroon has received a solemn invitation from the President of the People’s Republic of China, HE XI JINPING to visit the country on a date to be agreed later. This message was delivered on Friday 3 March 2017 by the Chinese Ambassador to Cameroon.
